Course
Health Risks from Welding and Cutting
Who is it for?
- Workers undertaking welding and cutting
- Those supervising welders
- Health and safety advisors
Why is it needed?
Welding and cutting training is essential because it is a legal duty, it helps workers recognise and control serious hazards, ensures the correct use of PPE/RPE and LEV, prevents accidents, and provides evidence of competence and compliance.
Under Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and COSHH 2002, employers must provide information, instruction and training on the risks of welding/cutting and how to control them.
- Welding and cutting expose workers to carcinogenic fume, toxic gases, noise, and UV radiation.
- Without training, workers may not understand invisible risks (e.g. fume inhalation, manganese poisoning).
Provides employers with evidence of compliance for HSE inspectors, insurers, and clients (e.g. SSIP, ISO audits).
