Needles & Sharps Awareness – Made for Mobile

This course explains the hazards associated with discarded needles, syringes and other sharp objects that workers may encounter during their normal activities.

It covers where sharps may be found, the potential health risks, including hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV, and the practical steps workers should take to prevent injuries.

The course uses realistic workplace examples and is Made for Mobile, making it easy to complete on a smartphone, tablet or computer.

Who is it for?

This course is designed for anyone who may need to recognise a concern, stop work or make decisions about whether work should continue, including:
  • Maintenance workers and operatives
  • Housing repairs and property maintenance teams
  • Grounds maintenance and cleaning personnel
  • Construction and refurbishment workers
  • Supervisors and team leaders
  • Site and contracts managers
  • Health and safety professionals

Why is it needed?

Discarded needles and other sharps can be found in properties, gardens, communal areas, waste storage locations and other workplaces.

The course reinforces an important principle: if you discover a needle or suspicious sharp object, stop work, don't touch it and report it.

Learners explore how to recognise sharps hazards, prevent injuries, follow reporting procedures, understand the role of authorised sharps removal and respond appropriately if an injury occurs.

How long does it take?

18 - 20 minutes approximately

Do I get a certificate?

Yes, you will receive a downloadable certificate once you pass all the questions.

How often is it recommended?

The certificate lasts for three years.
