Why is it needed?

Harmful micro-organisms, like bacteria, mould, and fungi, can cause serious health problems on construction sites. They can be found in soil, water, or damp areas and may be released into the air when disturbed. Breathing them in or getting them on your skin can lead to chest infections, asthma, long-term lung problems, or skin conditions such as dermatitis.

To stay safe, it’s important to have good ventilation, use the right PPE (like masks and gloves), and take part in health checks to spot problems early. These steps are required by law under COSHH and supported by HSE guidance, so they must always be followed on site.
