What is it?

This course is designed to help directors and managers understand their health and safety responsibilities within construction, including their leadership role, legal duties, and accountability when things go wrong. It uses real accident case studies and enforcement outcomes to show how poor planning, weak supervision, and unclear responsibilities can lead to serious harm, prosecutions, and significant business impact.

The course does not train participants to carry out specialist risk assessments, accident investigations, or legal compliance audits. These activities should be undertaken by competent and authorised persons in line with organisational procedures. Instead, the course focuses on what directors and managers must know, ask, and check to ensure risks are being effectively managed.

Why is it offered?

This course supports compliance with UK health and safety legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, CDM Regulations 2015, and associated regulations that place legal duties on companies and individuals. Directors and managers can be held personally accountable where failures in leadership, planning, or control contribute to an incident.

Training and awareness at management level are critical to demonstrating effective leadership, due diligence, and reasonable practicability. This course helps organisations show that senior staff understand their responsibilities and are taking active steps to prevent harm before something goes wrong.
